SOCIALBusiness

What will be the business of FUTURE?
Why is it worth doing social business?

What should a startup businessman be like
Why does it pay off to invest time and money to social business

SOCIALBusiness, LIKE ANY OTHER BUSINESS, SHOULD KNOW HOW TO MAKE MONEY.

You have a product or service that you offer in the market. It must be attractive and functional enough to catch people´s attention. However, in addition to the sale and profit, your business also directly helps to solve a social problem.

FOR WHOM IS
SOCIALBusiness
INTENDED?

I.FOR NON-PROFIT
ORGANIZATIONS

it is a way to become sustainable and financially self-supporting.

II.FOR COMMON BUSINESS

it is a question of motivation to bring innovations, find the hole in the market and address real problems of people and our era in a sustainable way.

III.FOR THE SOCIETY

it is the future and an opportunity to cope with pressing problems and develop our environment.

Every year particular examples of socially beneficial business in the world are announced by the Forbes magazine or the HUB Scaling program, supporting the projects internationally.

Our thank you goes to all who have accepted our invitation and supported our call to raise public awareness on the social business topic in Slovakia: Michal Meško (Martinus), Lucka and Simon Šicka (Pixel Federation), Ivan Štefunko (Neulogy Venture), Ken Ryan (KPMG a The Startup Studio), Roman Čmelík (Limerock Advisory), Tatiana Svrčková (Telekom Endowment Fund), Lenka Surotchak (Pontis Foundation), Lukáš Bakoš (Maxman Consultants), Baška Klimek (Impact HUB Bratislava), Sergej Kára (Dobre&Dobré), Branislav Šmidt (Impact HUB Bratislava), Katka Hudecová (CirkusKus), Dušan Dušky Matuška (Octago), Milan Steskal (Mentegram) and Maxo Maxián (BatSuite & Startup Education Slovakia).

GRAB THE CHANCE
FOR YOUR
SOCIALBusiness

The following programs provide business education, mentoring, professional advice or contact and, in some cases, also funding. They are offered by various organizations and professionals who care for the future of our country and our society. SOCIALBusiness
IN SLOVAKIA

Companies in Slovakia are starting to behave in socially responsible ways. And that is how they also try to make their business. It is becoming a standard that firms dedicate the time of their employees to volunteer activities and care more for the environment and the impact of their activities on the environment. But we are still missing the basic construction force of economics – an active individual. A businessman. One that not only makes socially responsible business but whose main business activity directly addresses concrete social problems.

TAKE A LOOK AT EXAMPLES OF SUCCESSFUL PROJECTS AND STARTUPS THAT ARE TRYING TO DO THIS.

Social Business

Deaf Kebab was founded by Šarina brothers in 2012. The fastfood restaurants concept that is unique in our conditions works as a network of sheltered workshops employing people with hearing impairment directly in the service. The added value of our project is the social dimension. By buying our food, customers support employment of hearing-impaired people. It is very hard for these people to find job and for many of them Deaf Kebab is the only chance to get employed. Moreover, they promote sign language and the culture of the deaf. They have developed a special support program for employees with hearing impairment where they help them to find job.

Technology For Good

Winner of Social Impact Award in 2013

The team dedicated to ecological sewage treatment makes and implements ecological water treatment plants – an isolated gravel field where sewage water is conveyed. There are water plants growing in the gravel, cleaning the water with their roots. Colonies of aerobic bacteria live around the plant roots and help to decompose nutrients for the plants. The system works in a perfect symbiosis. The bacteria break down the nutrients and the plants bring oxygen to the roots. The system is able to clean all kinds of sewage water and therefore it is often used in the world in households as well as in the industry. An ecologic water treatment plant is a good solution for individuals, municipalities and enterprises. Since they don’t need electric energy or a constant supply of sewage they are an ideal solution for weekend houses or holiday resorts that are not run during the whole year.

The idea has won prizes such as High-school Business Plan 2012 awarded by the Žilina Self-Governing Region; the Idea for the Region awarded by the Science and Technology Park in Žilina; the Slovak Business Agency has chosen this project for the finals of the national competition StartFIT. Today there are dozens of working ecological water treatment plants in Slovakia.
